Remedies for cheerful childhood
Children are always curious about new things. They want to explore the completely new world ahead of them. They imitate gestures, language as well as clothes worn by the elders around them, as the elders are heroes for them.
A great responsibility comes along as the elders are the ones from whom these children look forward to getting appreciation and that will make the day for these young minds.
We often find children trying to show us a painting that they have made. They come with their exercise notebooks that have stars or any good appreciation from the teacher. They do it because they want the appreciation of their parents. The world of children revolves around their parents.
Some children feel weak when they are compared to other of the same age. It is only because they fail to understand or follow the instructions properly that are given by the elders. In most cases, the children are in some sort of problem. It is not always a mischievous gesture.
Such kids are often scolded, as the teacher may complain about their insincerity. He or she might not be able to live up to the expectations of the parents. Scolding and angry gestures break these souls even more brutally.
A bit of appreciation and patience will always help. Identifying the cause of such naughty behaviour is the first step to overcome the obstruction towards success. A child has a tender heart and they get easily frightened. Lack of understanding from his parents whom he or she loves most in the world may break his or her soul. The kid might stop putting in any effort at all.
Today, we shall hear some such stories where an admiration from an elder acted as a key to unlock the door of success for a younger one. These elders, instead of blaming and using sour words, chose to be a friend in need.
Nahian (six years) is currently in KG. From the age of four, this young boy used to make patterns on any blank canvas that he could find. The house walls were his favorite drawing book. He would look around to ensure if anyone was watching him and start to scribble on these walls with crayons or pencils.
His mother and father were always keeping an eye on him, as they were worried about their newly painted walls being damaged by the strokes made by Nahian's little fingers.
One day, his mother was busy and she could not go to his school to fetch him after his classes. She was running late and Nahian had to wait with his class teacher, Miss Lily, until his mother arrived.
He was a quiet and shy boy by nature. The teacher thought that she did not have to occupy herself worrying about the boy. So, she started to get busy with her own work.
While the teacher was busy checking the answer scripts, suddenly her eyes fell on the paper that she had given to this little child to keep him from bothering her.
"Let me see what you have made, young man," said Lily with a generous smile.
"No... Nothing!" replied Nahian in a terrified voice, as he was scared that the teacher would scold him as his parents would do.
Lily took the paper from him and saw how this four-year old child was making a portrait of her. He had drawn a woman sitting on a chair with a pen in her hand and she was also wearing glasses. The saree, she was wearing, was the same colour that Nahian had chosen for his sketch. She was amazed by the way this young boy's amateur strokes had projected a perfect depiction of her clothes and especially her glasses. She could see him as a painter already.
When his mother came, Lily shared her thoughts with her and convinced her to admit her son into a painting class. She also said, "If you provide this boy with a canvas, your house walls will be safe"
The very next week, Nahian was admitted into Painting classes at Kochi Kachar Mela. This young boy has been going into painting classes for the last three years and his parents are also very happy as their walls are safe now and neither of them has to look out for Nahian anymore. He is always found where his canvas is.
Noyon (Nine years) had a very bad handwriting. His teachers used to complain about it at almost every parent-teacher's meeting. "Your son's handwriting is awful and unreadable," would be the common dialogue for the teachers.
His angry and disheartened parents tried everything that they could do to solve this issue. They started giving him extra handwriting sessions and also bought many books for him to develop his way of constructing letters. Unfortunately, nothing worked.
One day, his mother came across an old college friend of hers named Rokeya. After college, she went to special school and was then a child specialist. After about an hour of nostalgic stories from old college days, Noyon's mother finally shared her dilemma.
Rokeya wanted to help her friend and asked about the whole problem in detail.
She told Rokeya that Noyon's handwriting was horrible and all the teachers are complaining about it. His father is also worried regarding this issue and he often scolds Noyon. Rokeya could understand that there was something more to this boy's problem besides laziness. She decided to meet the boy and find out what the matter was.
The very next morning, she went to meet Noyon. She found a shy and scared boy peeping from the other side of the room and was very stiff and robotic.
"Hello! How are you doing?", asked she. There was no reply from the boy, as he was not willing to come out of the corner. She asked for some of his notebooks. After viewing them for a while, she figured out what the real deal was.
She asked Noyon if he could see the board clearly during class. "Everything looks so blurry aunty. I can't figure out a simple letter. 'F' and 'T' look alike and so does many other alphabets," said he. He was having difficulty identifying the letters as his eyesight was weak. She immediately called an eye specialist and took an appointment.
Thus, Noyon's problem was identified and solved with a pair of glasses. Right now Noyon is doing pretty well with his studies and 'F' does not look like 'T' anymore!
