Police foiled the hunger strike programmes observed separately by the factions of Moulvibazar district unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday, demanding release of the party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
A BNP faction, led by Moulvibazar BNP vice-president former mayor Faizul Karim Mayun and joint general secretary Faisal Ahmed, began a hunger strike on the Shaheed Minar premises in Moulvibazar Government School compound at 10am. They left the place at the police's instruction for not having prior permission.
Police also drove away another group of BNP activists as they gathered in front of the Moulvibazar Press Club led by district unit general secretary Mizanur Rahman.
BNP held hunger strike programmes countrywide on Wednesday, protesting at the imprisonment of Khaleda Zia.
