Cops-villagers clash, 20 injured in Habiganj

At least 20 people were injured in a clash between the police and villagers during an eviction drive centering land dispute in Bahubal upazila on Wednesday in Habiganj.

 

According to eyewitnesses, Finlay Tea of Rashidpur division recently has engaged in a dispute over the ownership of 17.57 acre land near Sundratiki village with its residents of the upazila. The villagers are using the land for 100 years and a case also filed with police station in this connection.

 

In the morning, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Md Jasim Uddin and officer in-charge of Bahubal police station Md Masuk Ali went to the spot with cops to conduct eviction drive in the area. At that time, villagers resisted the administration team and locked in a clash leaving 20 injured.

 

Cops shot fire and lobbed tear gas shells against to disperse the protesters.
