12 establishments burnt in three districts
At least 12 establishments were gutted in separate fire incidents in three districts- Patuakhali, Madaripur and Satkhira, in two days.
PATUAKHALI: A fire burnt at least 10 shops at Baherchar Bazaar in Rangabali Upazila here early Tuesday.
Local people said the fire broke out at a grocery about 1:30am, and soon it spread to the adjacent shops.
They doused the flame after three hours of hectic efforts.
Shop owners said the blaze might have originated from electric short circuit.
MADARIUR: A devastating fire broke out at Madaripur Haidar Kazi Jute Mill Ltd at TB Clinic area of the town on Monday evening.
The fire burnt several thousand maunds of jute and other equipment.
Police quoting some labourers and owner of the mill Haidar Kazi said the fire originated from the machine room about 6 pm and soon it engulfed the surrounding areas.
On information, seven fire-fighter units from Faridpur, Madaripur and Gaurnadi of Barisal District rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control after 22 hours.
Deputy Commissioner Wahidul Islam and Police Super Sarwar Hossen visited the spot.
SATKHIRA: A fire burnt a jute godown in Kalaroa Upazila here early Monday.
Some unidentified miscreants set fire to the jute godown in Sreepotipur area about 1 am, owner of the godown Mofizul Islam alleged.
The fire burned down goods worth about Tk 25 lakh, Mofizul claimed.
Being informed, a team of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and doused the flame after an hour.
