Banglalink expands spectrum holding by over 50pc
Banglalink, one of the leading digital communications service providers in Bangladesh, is going to invest over TK 3000 crore, one of the biggest investments made by any telecom operator in the country, for acquiring additional 5 MHz spectrum in 2100 MHz Band and 5.6 MHz spectrum in 1800 MHz Band.
Banglalink participated in the spectrum auction held at Dhaka Club on Tuesday and would acquire the largest amount of spectrum after making a successful bid.
The newly allocated spectrum will result in a significant improvement of the digital services provided to Banglalink's existing customer base.
In addition, it will fulfill the spectrum requirement for 4G, which is going to be launched after the issuance of the license by BTRC on 19th February. Besides these, Banglalink has also applied for tech neutrality which will allow it to provide 2G, 3G or 4G services in any band.
"We are extremely delighted to acquire the additional spectrum." said Erik Aas, CEO, Banglalink in a press statement late on Tuesday.
He also mentioned, "Spectrum plays a key role in providing quality services to customers. With the acquisition of the additional spectrum, we will provide customers with seamless digital connectivity and better coverage enhancing their user experience."
Banglalink already holds 20 MHz of spectrum in three different bands. After the acquisition of the additional spectrum, it will have 30.6 MHz spectrum in total.
Since starting its journey, Banglalink has been playing a pioneering role in transforming lives of millions through latest technology. The acquisition of the additional spectrum once again reflects its continuous effort to take the country towards a digital future.
