A boy, who was seriously injured after falling from a coconut tree nine days ago, died at his home in Bauphal Upazila of Patuakhali on Friday.

The deceased, Sifat Hossain, is a seventh grader at Keshobpur NS Secondary School in Bauphal Upazila, and son of Hanif Ghazi of North Mominpur village of Keshobpur Union.

According to the sources, Sifat fell down from the coconut tree about 20 feet high on September 5. He was seriously injured and became unconscious.

He was taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital from where he was sent to Dhaka Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

Hanif Ghazi, a poor day labourer, could not afford the treatment cost and brought his ailing son back home unconscious. After the death of Sifat on Friday, a pall of gloom cast over the area.

Sifat was buried in his locality after his namaz-e-janaza after Jumaa prayers.
