International CEDAW Day was on September 03. To mark its celebration, a seminar titled          "Aggression towards women at mass level, violation of women's rights:  CEDAW "  was organized by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on 11 September at 3:30pm in the capital. International Editor Rekha Saha presented the remark of central committee of Bangladesh Women Council in the seminar. Luna Nur, member of International sub-council of Bangladesh Women Council read out the proposal. Jona Goswami, Director, advocacy and lobby of the council directed the seminar. President of central committee of Bangladesh Women Council, Ayesha Khanom presided over the ceremony. She asserts, "The root of the sexual harassment that women face is patriarchy and our culture. Our curricula should be gender sensitive. The media house should work against violence towards women."
DMP joint police commissioner Mofiz Uddin Ahmed PPM says, "The main objective of the movement launched by students was to establish discipline by removing disorder. The condition of public transport in Dhaka city is risky for women. Besides everyone else, if the police perform their duties properly, we can overcome this situation."
Shabnam Aziz, Assistant Professor, Mass Journalism Department, Dhaka University remarks, "As women we face many difficulties while reporting to the police. Not only the men, many of us women live by the rules of patriarchy. We should change our attitude. We should consider women as human beings at first. We call it aggression if women are murdered after being raped. Women constantly face verbal abuse but that is not taken into consideration. CEDAW has given us vast opportunities. Not as a woman, but as a human being we have to be conscious about our rights and continue our struggle to establish those."
