Two mega projects for modern Khulna City
KHULNA, Oct 11: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has taken two mega projects for building a water-logging-free clean, green and modern city.
The projects are 'Removing Water Logging of Khulna City' and 'Development of City's Drainage System', sources said.
Earlier, KCC sent two project proposals to the Ministry of Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED).
On September 18, 2018, the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) okayed Taka 823.79 crore for the two projects.
Besides, on October 9, ECNEC also approved Taka 607.56 crore project for repairing city's 573 roads.
Talking to The Daily Observer, Public Relations Officer of KCC Sarder Abu Taher said a total of 513 roads will be repaired under 31 wards, while 60 central roads of KCC will be repaired under the project very soon.
He said KCC has planned to carpet 78-kilometre road at Taka 238 crore, while 151.92-km road will be repaired through rod, cement and concrete moulding at Taka 303 crore and 33-km road will be repaired through cement concrete moulding at Taka 36 crore under the project.
Besides, city's important streets will be beautified at Taka 10 crore.
KCC Chief Executive Officer Palash Kanti Bala said, after being elected as KCC Mayor, Talukder Abdul Khaleque advised the concerned officers of KCC to implement these two mega projects.
The mega project proposals were approved by the general meeting of KCC. The then BNP Mayor Moniruzzaman Mony chaired the meeting.
While contacted, KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said the mega projects were taken as those were his prime election manifestos.
He also thanked the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for approving Tk 1,432 crore for Khulna City development saying that epoch-making development has happened in the south-western zone during last 10 years.
This is first ever in the development history of Khulna that ECNEC has approved Tk 1432 crore for two projects between short period in any government tenure, he also said.
