Three get life term in two districts
Three persons including two siblings were sentenced to life-term imprisonment in two separate cases in two districts- Barishal and Netrakona, recently.
BARISHAL: A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment and fined Taka 10 lakh, in default to suffer one more year in jail for killing wife of brother-in-law over extramarital affair in 2010.
The convicted is Nabo Kumar Shaha, 37, son of Chitta Shaha of Icegati Village under Rupsha Upazila in Khulna District and resident of Jambari Village in Wazirpur Upazila of Barishal. He was a goldsmith by profession.
The convicted who was a married man had an extramarital affair with his brother-in-law's wife Kalpona. On July 6, 2010, Kalpon'a husband threatened Nabo Kumar not to meet with his wife.
On the same day, Nabo Kumar's wife Shikha was absent at the house. At that time, he called Kalpona to his house and tried to rape her, but as she resisted, he killed her.
Later, a case was filed and police filed charge-sheet on December 31, 2010.
After taking evidence of 15 witnesses, Judge Mohsinul Haque announced the verdict.
NETRAKONA: A court here on Sunday sentenced two brothers to life-term imprisonment for killing a young man in 2014.
The lifers are Enamul and his younger brother Khairul, residents of Isulia Village in Purbadhala Upazila.
Netrakona District and Sessions Judge K M Rasheduzzaman Raza passed the order.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, and in default, to suffer three more months in jail.
The court also acquitted Rezaul, 28, elder brother of the convicts, from the case as he was found innocent.
According to prosecution, the convicts beaten Al Amin, 25, resident of Noapara Village in the upazila, to death on May 1, 2014.
Later, Al Amin's father Abdul Jabber Fakir filed a case with Purbadhala Police Station in this connection.
