UP chairman murder accused, seven cohorts held in Barishal
BARISHAL, Nov 8: The prime accused in a UP chairman killing case and his seven associates were arrested by police with firearms used in that killing.
It was claimed at a press conference organised by district police at Barishal Police Lines conference room on Wednesday afternoon.
The eight arrested are: prime accused Shakil Islam Rabbi and his associates- Mamun Shah, Kawsar Serniabat, Ershad, Kuddus Hawlader, Hadirul Islam Hadi, Dipu and Sohag.
Superintended of Police (SP) Saiful Islam said police continued drives to arrest the alleged killers and their associates.
Accordingly Rabbi and his associates were arrested from Mohammadpur area, and as per their confession recovered a foreign pistol with two rounds of bullet.
The SP said the murder occurred for opposing drug trading and controlling supremacy of the area.
Officer-in-Charge of Wazirpur Police Station Shisir Kumar Pal said the drives continued to arrest rest of the accused.
Jalla Union Parishad Chairman and union AL Chairman Biswajit Halder Nantu was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at his shops at Harta Bazaar on Sep 21.
His father Shuk Lal Halder lodged a murder case accusing 32 persons including seven unnamed. Police arrested total 20 persons including newly arrested eight in that case.
Local people continued protests including strike, rally and human chain in their area demanding arrest of the killers and their associates.
