With an aim to build ICT-based campus through creating technology friendly environment for students, a two-day IT festival, National Campus IT Fest-2014, will begin at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU) on September 14.
The DU Information Technology Society (DUITS) and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) division of the government will jointly organize the festival with a view to increasing IT awareness among the young generation of the country.
With the theme "IT based campus for Higher Education and for building a Digital Bangladesh," the IT festival will be held this year for the third time.
The details of the carnival were announced on Monday at a press conference at the university's TSC auditorium, where State Minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak delivered a written speech.
The government has planned to set up a modern IT-based campus having facilities of modern internet connectivity of maximum one gigabyte speed per second at 37 public universities across the country by April next year, the state minister said.
He said, "This is a mega campus-based technology festival. I hope the two-day carnival will encourage and inspire the students to learn more on ICT while it'll also play an important role for the university teachers and researchers."
The government is giving extra attention to the country's IT sector to build a Digital Bangladesh, he said.
Among others, DUITS Advisor and Director of Institute of Information Technology (IIT) of the university Dr Kazi Muhaimin-as-Sakib, DUITS President Abdullah Al Imran and General Secretary Arif Dewan were present on the occasion.
