A Dhaka court on Saturday placed two persons on a five-day remand each in connection with Thursday's triple murder at Moghbazar in the capital.
The arrested were identifies as Faruk Hossain and Sohel Khan close associates of Kala Babu, the prime accused in the case filed over the murder.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Erfan Ullah passed the order after police produced them before him seeking 10 days remand for each.
The arrested during primary interrogation confessed to their involvement in the killings. So, they should be put on remand for further quizzing, the investigation officer told the court.
On secret information, a team of police conducted a raid in Ramna area and arrested them, said Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman. Ramna police arrested them early on Saturday in connection with the murders.
The arrested are FIR (First Information Report) named accused in the sensational killing case, he said.
Police arrested the two in connection with their alleged involvement in killing three people at Moghbazar in the capital on Thursday night.
Ramna Police Station Inspector Md Selim Mian presented suspects 'Faruk' and 'Sohel' before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Erfan Ullah on Saturday afternoon and sought a nine-day remand. Lawyers of the accused pleaded for their bail.
Police said they had prima facie evidence to link the duo to the murder. The magistrate rejected the bail pleas and granted five days remand for each.
Both are named in the case filed by the victims' relatives. Police said they were accomplices of the prime suspect Kala Babu. The two were there during the shooting, police told The daily Observer.
On Thursday night, a group of unknown assailants entered a house in Sonalibagh and shot dead Ranu, 30, and her tenants, 'Munna', 22, and 'Belal', 20.
Ranu's 18-year old brother 'Hridoy' was wounded and is now being treated at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
The family immediately blamed local "criminal" Kala Babu, saying he had been demanding money from them for some time.
A case was lodged with Ramna Police Station on Friday night by Shamim alias Kala Chan, the brother of Ranu. It accused 15 people for the killing. Among the accused are Kala Babu, Faisal Ahmed Rony, 'Shahdat', 'Raju', 'Topu', 'Sohel', 'Arif', 'Maruf', 'Billal', 'Thandu', 'Siraj', 'Picchi Rony' and 'Jony'.
According to the case details, Kala Babu had been trying to extort money from Kala Chan following a dispute over possession of a land. The arrest was made early Saturday in a desperate hunt launched in Nayatola, Malibagh and Moghbazar areas by the law enforcers on Friday night. However, Kala Babu, the main accused, is still at large. So, the drive to arrest the rest of the people involved in the murder is underway. The police officials added no arms were recovered from the arrested persons.
