RANGPUR, Sept 6 : Police arrested 58 persons, including 10 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir from different places in the district during the past 24 hours ending on Saturday morning. According to police sources, the arrested Jamaat-Shibir activists had been absconding and several cases are pending against them for their alleged involvements with attacking police, conducting subversive and terrorist activities, vandalism and arson in recent times. Mithapukur Thana police arrested Jamaat-Shibir activists Mizanur Rahman, 25, Idris Ali, 43, Tuhin Mian, 24, Minhazul, 27, Afzal, 40, Tofazzal, 30, Morshed, 45, Ashikur, 25 and Sirajul Islam, 45, while Pirgachha Thana police arrested Hafizur Rahman, 32. Besides, police arrested 48 more persons, including drug traders and traffickers, extortionist, terrorists, absconding convicts, dacoits, muggers, accused person in separate murder cases and other anti-social elements from all over the district. Twenty-five bottles of smuggled phensidyl and seven litres of fermented wine were also seized during the raids. After primary interrogation, the arrested persons were produced before the Rangpur courts concerned from where they were sent to the jail hajat, the sources added. ?BSS
