A bitter clash occurred between two factions of Ganajagaran Mancha and police on Friday.
The Mancha activist of Imran H Sarker group Khan Asaduzzaman Masum told The Daily Observer, "We had a pre-planned meeting at Shahbagh. But police attacked us suddenly. They kicked Imran and other activists mercilessly. Later activists of Kamal Pasha group (another Mancha faction) threw chairs at us.
Seven of our activists including Imran, Lucky Akter, Maruf Rasul were injured in the attacks."
All the victims were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after the scuffle subsided. They are out of danger now, he said.
However, Ganajagaran Mancha activist of Kamal Pasha Chowdhury group SM Shahin denied the allegation against his faction. He told this correspondent, "Arif Jebtik and Khan Asaduzzaman Masum attacked our group. We tried to diffuse the situation as far as we could. But 9 to 12 of our activists sustain severe injuries in their attack. They were also admitted to DMCH. Among them, Muktijoddha Sangsad Command Council President Mehedi Hasan was critically injured."
Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker was not available on phone for comments.
Reportedly, the Mancha announced a number of protest programmes to protest Sayedee's verdict calling it pre-planned and biased.
