Nafis Islam, a student of Rajuk Uttara Model School and College, attended the gaming contest team and won the championship 'The 3rd National Campus Information Technology (IT) Fest' at Dhaka University on September 14 and 15. Like Nafis, about 1000 IT students and academicians attended the biggest ever campus based technology event in the country.
DUITS
Dhaka University Information Technology Society (DUITS) founded by President Abdullah Al Imran and his friends, was launched in 2011 with a vision to build an IT enabled campus for better education. "We are working to increase awareness in this sector, such as awareness about cyber security, outsourcing, high-speed internet, trying to make ours student adapt to technology" DUITS Vice President Iftekhar Alam Ifat told the Daily Observer.
National Campus IT Fest
DUITS started the initiative, titled National Campus IT Fest in 2012 for the first time. The event is considered as the largest IT event at campus level in the country. Information Technology friendly students get a chance to exercise their imagination in interested fields. Among the events are sharing session, project exposition, apps contest, idea sharing and gaming. About 1000 students from 70 educational institutions took part in the exposition.
Fest this year
A two-day long Campus IT Fest was organised for the thirds time this year at Teacher and Students Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University on September 14 and 15. Thousands of students took part in the four categories of the contest. These were Mobile apps in Life, a competition on innovative application development, Software and Hardware showcasing, Brainstorming for generating Business Idea and Gaming. Besides, the Quiz Contest was open for all.
Apps in Life (Mobile apps development)
The contest titled Apps in Life was the platform of the contestants to expose their maximum innovation in mobile application programming.
Each of the participating teams consisted of four members and they focused on the innovative concept, user friendliness and social Impact in their projection.
AndrMIST team represented the Military Institute of Science and Technology at the event. They brought the champion trophy in Apps in Life category to their campus. App-core of BUET and Infinite loop team of Rajuk College were runners up for the category. The honorary mention titles were grabbed by Parabola of ULAB and BSMRSTU Titans team from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology, Gopalgonj.
Project Showcasing
Each team was represented by 2-4 members. Exposition of featured projects related to various fields of Information Technology, Hardware or Software, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
The participants' generated their projects at different angles like Idea, Business Logic, Cost and Benefits, Scope of Real Life implementation.
The team Mongol Barota of MIST showcased the best project in this part of projection. Scientific inventors of Notre Dame College and Tech Wizards of IUT Gazipur got second and third place respectively.
Khulna University of Engineering and Technology took part in the event with the team Prerona. Team Prerona and Medicare of Manarat Int'l University were placed honorable mention.
Brainstorming (Business Idea Contest)
All teams presented their business ideas focusing on the target group of people, solution of an existing problem, scope of implementation, technical and commercial feasibility, and SWOT analysis.
Viqarunnisa Noon School and College showed its excellence again here with its team VNS Perlz which showcased the best business idea at the Brain Storming contest. Harbingers from ULAB got the second place. IIT Team One Hour from DU achieved second runners up trophy. IUT Black Parade of Islamic University of Technology, Gazipur, and Consensus of Manarat International College got honorable mention.
Gaming
The gaming contest was held in two parts, Counter Strike Source and Need for Speed.
Gaming contest was held round by round as a knock-out session. In each round two players took part, with the winner shifting to the next stage. The team Repulsion from BRAC University played well the Counter Strick Source and grabbed the championship of the Game. Grave Riders team from University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) got runners up trophy.
The second part of the gaming was held at individual level. The game Need for Speed is popularly known as Vice City. Vice City lover Azan Yusuf from Manarat International University won the award of Vice City Championship. Nafis Islam from Rajuk Uttara Model School and College was just behind Yusuf. Bayazid Bostami of World University and Wasek Sazzad of Dhaka University got honorable mention.
IT Noesis Quiz
This quiz is contested by groups; participants can form teams from different institutes as well. The first round will be MCQ and the next phase on stage is conducted by the Quiz Master. The preferred topics are Recent IT world, Technologies and their implementation scope, possible solution of different problems of Bangladesh, IT perspective and history in Bangladesh, etc.
