Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam on Friday said that the next election would be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2019. Only political parties representing in Parliament will form a polls-time government and BNP would not be able to join it.
He was speaking at a discussion meeting titled 'Sheikh Hasina Bangalir Alokbartika', marking her 68th birthday organised by the Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
The Food Minister threatened BNP of filing new cases against its activists, if it tried to create any anarchy in the name of anti-government movement.
Repeated threats of movement have turned BNP into a 'paper tiger'. However, in a satiric note he welcomed movements of the opposition, saying that it would be 'good for their health'.
He condemned the derogatory comments of the Senior Vice-Chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman about the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He wants to quarrel without any provocation. The comments of an absconding accused are really unbearable, he observed.
Quamrul also criticised eminent jurist and Gano Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain.
Dr. Kamal talks democracy in political parties but there is no democratic system in his own party. No conference was held in his party for long. He chooses party's General Secretary every now and then, he alleged.
Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance President Tarana Halim chaired the programme.
