WASHINGTON: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has said household use of gas will have to be abolished in the country.

"Use of gas burners must be abolished in the country. Use of gas burners means destroying the country," he said while speaking at an opinion-sharing meeting with Jalalabad Association of America in New York on Monday evening.

Referring to the demand of Bangladesh expatriates living in the United States for re-introducing Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights, he said there are a separate management for operating Biman's flights. But, they don't understand business. "Biman's New York flights could not be re-introduced due to mismanagement and weaknesses in security," he said.

The Finance Minister also expressed his frustration about the time-table for re-introduction of Biman's New York flights.

With Badrul Khan, president of Jalalabad Association of America, in the chair, the opinion-sharing meeting was also addressed by Bangladesh Ambassador to the United Nations Dr AK Abdul Momen, local political and community leaders.

The minister also answered to the queries of the expatriates regarding the development of Sylhet.
