At least 14 people were killed and 43 others injured in road accidents in Comilla, Feni and Natore districts on Sunday, according to our correspondents.
In Comilla, a fatal road accident left seven people dead and 29 others injured near Miabazar in Chauddagram upazila of Comilla on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway Sunday morning.
One of the deceased one was identified as Jamal Ahmed Sohel, 43, manager of Brac Bank, Bahaddarhat Brach of Chittagong. He succumbed to the injury in Chowddagram Health Complex. Of the injured, Anwar Hossain, 32, an Executive Magistrate of Rangamati Upazila, another injured is an Army personnel and a BGB member.
They were admitted to Chowddagram Upazila Health Complex and Comilla Medical College Hospital, police confirmed.
Sub-inspector Shahabuddin, in-charge of Miabazar Highway Police Camp, said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound truck collided with a Chittagong-bound bus from Gaibandha around 5am, killing the truck driver and his helper and four passengers of the bus on the spot and injuring 30 others.
Besides, a Chittagong-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan collided with a Dhaka-bound bus in Lalbagh area in Sadar Dakkhin upazila around 6am, leaving an unidentified woman dead on the spot.
Two separate cases were lodged with respective police stations, concerned OC said.The traffic on the busy highway was disrupted for half an hour due to the incident.
In Natore, four people including a woman died on the spot after a Natore-bound truck crashed into an auto-rickshaw at Majgaw of Baraigram upazila around 4:00pm.
The deceased are identified as Pulok, Lokman Hossain, Mamata Begum and Shukur Ali. Three others were injured in the accident. They were whisked off to a local hospital.
In Feni, three passengers of a bus were killed and at least 10 others injured after the driver lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Kaska area of Feni Sadar Upazila around 5:45am.
Two of the victims were identified as Md Mamun, 17 and Josna Begum, 36, reports our Feni correspondent. The other was an unidentified woman.
Saleh Ahmed Pathan, officer in-charge of Mohipal Highway Police Station, Saleh Ahmed Pathan, officer in-charge of Mohipal Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident and added that the bodies were sent to Feni Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Police seized the bus of Delta Line Paribahan, bound for Chittagong from Tangail, but the driver managed to flee. The injured were attending treatments at Feni Sadar Hospital.
