Fugitive convict arrested after 17-yr

SYLHET: A fugitive convict, who was awarded death sentence by a court for killing a youth, was arrested from Moulvibazar on Sunday night after 17 years.   

Shahjahan, 40, son of Ustar Ali, was arrested from a fish market of Paschimbazar in Moulvibazar around 11:30pm.

On August 12, 2003, Sessions Judge's Court in Sylhet sentenced Shahjahan to death. Shahjahan was absconding after the murder incident.

Nandan Kanti Dhar,  officer-in-charge of Fenchuganj Police Station said, acting on a tip-off, a police team led by ASI Ataur Rahman raided the area at night and arrested Shahjahan from there.

According to police, one Abdul Wadud, 19, was killed in an attack at a Jatra play stage on February 23, 1997.

Wadud's father Abdul Wahab filed a case with Fenchuganj Thana in this connection.
