'Mentor molested, killed Zubair'

Zubair Ahmed, an O’ level student, was molested and killed by his mentor Abuubaida Kadir, 46, an Algerian national, in capital’s Uttara area on October 4.

Detective branch of police said Zubair’s playmate and only eye witness to the murder Ismail Hossain informed it to police in remand.

Members of police arrested the football and swimming coach Abuubaida Kadir, who is staying in Bangladesh for last 10 years without legal documents,  and Ismail Hossain, a 17-year old schoolboy, after the killing.

Tthe mystery of the murder came into light after interrogating them.

DB police held a press conference at DMP media centre on Sunday afternoon in this regard.

Quoting Ismail, deputy commissioner of DB( North) Sheikh Nazmul Alam said,  Abuubaida Kadir arranged a football match at Park Samity ground of Uttara sector-4 on October 4.

“They concluded their game just before Maghrib prayers and only Zubair, Ismail and Kadir were left at the playground. They then sat next to the pond at the park and Zubair took off his jersey and shoes and got into the water. Kadir also followed him,” the DB officer said.

Kadir later held Zubair tightly and tried to become sexually intimate with him, Nazmul quoted the witness as saying.
“Zubair resisted Kadir and engaged in a fisticuff with him, leaving Zubair injured. Later, the young boy died,” said the DC.

“After the murder, Kadir told the boy to kept his mouth shut and said if he did that, he would receive a good reward and Kadir would help him go abroad,” Nazmul said.

The DB officer also said after the arrest, police scanned the mobile phone of Kadir and found text messages sent to the teenaged boys in obnoxious language.

The DB official said said it was verifying his Bangladesh entrance history with the assistance of the Special Branch of police. Asked if the DB had been contacted regarding consular access for Kadir, he said they had not received any request.
