Govt colleges no longer under NU

Sir,
There are 26000 government and non-government colleges under National University. Earlier, all the colleges, both government and non-government, were affiliated to some certain public universities. But in 1992, National University was set up to relieve the existing universities from the unwieldy roll strength of the students seeking higher education, and at the same time, to ameliorate the conditions prevailing in the affiliated colleges and to improve the quality of teaching. We have known from newspapers that only the government colleges which are only 279 in number will be affiliated to some public universities.
This is undoubtedly a good initiative but all the colleges -- government and non-government -- should be under the respective universities and National University should be facilitated well so as to perform as a specialized public university.
