A 201-member ‘partial’ committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the associate student body of BNP, was finally announced on Tuesday night, dissolving the earlier one.

The new committee was formed with Rajib Ahsan as its president and Akramul Hasan as general secretary, said a press release signed by BNP student affairs secretary Shaheeduddin Chowdhury Anee.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia approved the committee on Tuesday, the release added.

Rajib and Akram replaced Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Jewel and Habibur Rashid Habib respectably.

Rajib was organising secretary while Akram joint secretary of the JCD’ s immediate past central committee led by Jewel and Habib formed on September 4, 2012.

According to the JCD constitution, the central committee is formed for two years.

Announcing committees through issuing press releases has become a common practice for the JCD as it could not hold any central council since 1993 due to intra-party conflicts.

The other office-bearers include senior vice-president Mamunur Rashid Mamun, 1st joint secretary Asaduzzaman Asad, organising secretary Ishaq Sarker, publicity secretary Mahmudul Islam Himel, office secretary Abdus Sattar Patwari, female student secretary Fahmida Majid Usha.

As part of BNP’s overhauling process, the JCD fresh committee was announced.

Earlier, BNP chairperson had several meetings with the JCD leaders and activists to form the new committee. Khaleda at the meetings assured the JCD men of installing young leadership in her party’s student body in a bid to wage a strong anti-government movement.

JCD sources, however, said Khaleda retreated from her words, as president Rajb is nearly 40-year old while organising secretary Ishaq Sarker is married.

Unlike in the past, Khaleda approved the committee though it is violation of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act as the BNP chief cannot approve any committee of an associate body of her party.
