Admission seekers on Sunday staged demonstration in front of Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at Dhaka University demanding the withdrawal of the authorities’ decision not to allow students to sit for the DU admission test for second time.
DU sources said, agitated students started gathering at Razu Sculpture in front of TSC around 9:30am.
Police detained five students from there.
However, they were released after a brief detention at around 1pm on condition of not holding further demonstration.
The DU authorities asked them to leave the area but they ignored the request. DU proctor AM Amzad said, "The students did not take permission for the protest and they were not the DU students."
One of the protesters said that they would organise a mass gathering on the premises of the Central Shaheed Minar on October 25 if their demands are not met by October 24.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Dhaka University authorities decided to allow only freshly passed HSC students to appear at its admission tests for a single year from the 2015-16 academic session, aiming to create an equal opportunity for all the aspirants.
Following the decision, the students started their protest since Friday.
