The deprived Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders and activists have postponed their agitation programme till Monday following the assurance given by BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir about taking the matter to the notice of party chief Khaleda Zia.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam gave the assurance during a meeting with some former JCD leaders at the party’s Naya Paltan central office on Sunday afternoon.
JCD rebel leader Sirajuddin Riaz informed journalists about their decision after the meeting in the evening.
"We have placed our demands before the Acting Secretary General. He'll inform us about the party decision on Monday after making Chairperson Khaledfa Zia aware about it," said Riaz.
The dissident leaders and activists of the BNP's youth wing have been demonstrating in front of the Nayapaltan office since Wednesday demanding scraping of the new committee.
On Tuesday night, BNP chief Khaleda Zia approved a 201-member partial committee of JCD triggering angered among the deprived leaders.
