4 Agrani Bank officials jailed for embezzling Tk 1.8mn

A Dhaka court has sent four officials of state-owned Agrani Bank Limited to jail for embezzling over Tk 1.8 million.
The officials worked at the bank's Green Road branch in capital Dhaka.
The judge of Dhaka's Second Special Judge's Court Hosne Ara Begum on Monday delivered the verdict on the case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2004.
Senior Principal Officers Mohammad Ullah and Md Salimullah were sentenced to jail for 10 years and seven years, respectively, while Manager Zulfiqar Ali and officer Md Sarowar Hossain were given three years of imprisonment.
Apart from them, a woman named Rabeya Rahman was accused in the case, but she was acquitted. According to the case details, the officials had used her bank account to embezzle Tk 1.1 million.
Of the accused, the first two are absconding. The others were present at the court on Monday when the verdict was delivered.     ?bdnews24.com
