The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the bail granted by the High Court to Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekram murder case accused Abdullahil Mahmud Shiblu.

The Appellate Division chamber court of Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order following a petition filed by the state, said Additional Attorney General Murad Reza.

On October 1, a vacation bench of the High Court comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Mohammad Badruzzaman granted six months' bail to Shiblu in the killing case.

On May 20, Ekramul Haque Ekram, also president of Fulgazi upazila unit of Awami League, came under attack by miscreants in front of Bilasi Cinema Hall of the district town of Feni on his way to Fulgazi municipality office.

The miscreants intercepted his microbus and fired shots on him from a very close range and then set fire to the vehicle.

They left the scene after confirming Ekram’s death on the spot. Shiblu surrendered to the Feni Model Police Station after four days into the murder.

On August 28, police submitted charge-sheet against 56 people in the murder case.

Of them, 31 accused, including BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, joint secretary of Fulgazi upazila Awami League Jahid Chowdhury and cousin of district AL general secretary Nizam Uddin Hazari MP, Abid, are now in jail.
