GAZIPUR, Oct 22: Bangladesh Open University (BOU) has stepped into the 23rd year of its journey.
The founding anniversary was celebrated on its Gazipur campus on Tuesday.
BOU, the country's only open and distance learning university, was established at Board Bazaar under the district on October 21, 1992.
It is now providing a total of 24 formal and 19 informal academic programmes on 570 school campuses (including main campus and sub-centres) and over multimedia which is mainly to facilitate underprivileged and working class people.
There are 5,70,201 students, six academic schools, 137 teachers (full time), 536 officers, 625 employees, 12 regional centres, 80 sub-regional centres, 1,475 study centres, 23,089 (adjunct) tutors in the university.
