KHULNA, Oct 22: Speakers at a workshop here on Wednesday stressed the need for environment-friendly sanitation and safe water to ensure sound health for mass people.
For this reason, natural supply of safe water must be ensured, they said, adding that there is no alternative to effective measures for protecting safe water as well as regular hand wash.
They also opined that people of all ages including children would likely to get relief from different diseases like Diarrhoea, jaundice and others if they wash their hands regularly.
The workshop was held at the conference room of Khulna deputy commissioner in observance of National Sanitation Month October and World Hand Wash Day-2014.
Khulna Divisional Administration, Khulna District Administration, Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Directorate of Public Health Engineering and NGO Forum for Health Publicity jointly organised the workshop with Khulna Deputy Commissioner Anis Mahmud in the chair.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdus Samad addressed the workshop as chief guest while Chief Executive Officer of KCC Md Abdul Hannan Biswas, Superintendent Engineer of Khulna Circle of Directorate of Public Health Engineering S M Wahidul Islam and Khulna Range Director of Anser and VDP Md Akbor Ali addressed as special guests.
Professor Abdullah Harun of Environmental Science Discipline of Khulna University presented the key note paper while regional manager of Khulna NGO Forum Khondoker Rakibuzzaman delivered the welcome speech.
The speakers also underscored to use of sanitary toilet of all members of the family and urged not to toilet under the open sky or at any unhygienic toilet. A hand wash program was displayed before the workshop and a cultural function was held after the workshop.
Engineers of Public Health in different districts in Khulna division, Officials of Education and Information Department, UP members and different NGOs who work with sanitation and other officials attended the workshop.
Earlier, a colourful procession was paraded in the city's different streets, led by Khulna deputy commissioner Anis Mahmud.
