Former Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Ghulam Azam has died. He was kept on life support at BSMMU from the evening. BSMMU Director Brig Gen Abdul Majid Bhuiyan told the media at 11:53pm on Thursday that the former Jamaat-e-Islami chief died at 10:10pm.

"Process of handing over his body to his family will start tonight," said the director.

Before this announcement Ghulam Azam's son Abdullah Aman  Azmi told reporters "he is no more ."

At 10:45 his personal manager Abul Kalam Azad also said the 92-year-old former Jamaat-e-Islami chief breathed his last at city’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) around 10:15pm.

Ghulam Azam, who was awarded 90 years' jail sentence for crimes against humanity by the International Crimes Tribunal, died while underwent treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical Univesity Hospital's prison cell at 9.55pm on Thursday.
