CHITTAGONG, Oct 23: A Chittagong court here on Thursday issued the warrants of arrest against former Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique in four more cases in which he had been accused of 'hurting religious sentiment'.
The court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Mashiur Rahman passed the order.
According to the court sources, Advocate Kawser Parvin, Abdus Sattar, Iftekhar Mohsin and Mohammad Kaiyum filed those cases on October 1 against Latif Siddique. The court ordered Siddique to appear before it on Thursday. The arrest warrants were issued as he failed to appear before the court today.
The Tangail-4 MP drew widespread condemnation after making offensive remarks against the practice of Hajj and Tabligh Jamaat at a programme in New York on September 28. A youtube video clip of his remarks triggered a controversy as it went viral on the internet.
Over two dozens of cases have been filed against him in different courts.
