BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made this announcement at a press briefing held at BNP's Naya Paltan party office on Saturday.
He informed the BNP will stage demonstration at all the thanas in the capital and all district headquarters on Sunday.
“We didn’t cancel the rally. Rather, the government forced us to do so,” Fakhrul said.
Denouncing the denial of permission to hold BNP rally by the police administration, Fakhrul said, "At present there is no democracy in the country. Democracy is under the boots of the police. It seems they are very powerful, so do not give the permission of holding a rally".
He also alleged that police administration has taken a dual policy. “They give permission to Awami League for holding rally but deny BNP.”
In the press conference, Metropolitan BNP convenor Mirza Abbas expressed his hole that the government would permit BNP to hold democratic programmes in future.
BNP was scheduled to hold a rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan this afternoon marking the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’. Party chairperson Khaleda Zia was supposed to address the rally.
