Police-BNP clash leaves 17 injured in Gazipur

GAZIPUR : At least 17 people were injured, including one police official received bullet wounds, in  a clash between BNP activists and law enforcers in the city on Sunday afternoon during BNP's demonstration.

Police also detained four BNP activists from in front of the party's district office on Rajbari  Road. One of the detainee was identified as Saiful Islam Latu

Local sources said the clash ensued at noon when police tried to remove the BNP activists who gathered in front of the party office to take part in BNP's scheduled demonstration programme.

The BNP men have started gathering in front of the party office from morning, blocking traffic

"As police tried to rmeove the politicos, they pelted brick bats to them. The law enforcers also fired gun shots to disperse them, that left 17 people including a police officer injured," said a police source.

On information, Police Super Harnur Rashid rushed in and took control over the incident.

Joydevpur thana OC Rezaul Hasan said a police official among 17 poeple were injured seriously and they were sent to the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
