Japan offers investment in bamboo plantation

Japan has offered to invest in hybrid bamboo plantation in Karnaphuli Paper Mills (KPM) areas, aiming to boost its production through uninterrupted raw material supply.
Visiting President of the Association of African Economy and Development Japan ECA Committee Tetsuro Yano, also a former Japanese Foreign Minister came up with the offer at a meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at his Secretariat office in Dhaka on Monday.
Appreciating the offer, Amu also urged the Japanese delegation to come up with a coordinated proposal for balancing, modernisation, rehabilitation and expansion (BMRE) of Karnaphuli Paper Mills to increase its production.
Terming Japan one of the major development partners of Bangladesh, the minister said Japan has made substantial contributions towards rebuilding Bangladesh economy after the Liberation War.
Industries Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, First Secretary of Japanese Embassy in Dhaka Kawakami Takayuki, President of Angelica Japan Bangladesh Limited N Ahsan William and President of Coldwell Limited Khairul Majid Mahmood were, among others, present at the meeting, said a handout.     ?UNB
