Wife murder case: Ex-MP Tipu's son sent to jail

Humayun Sultan, son of former Awami League MP Tipu Sultan from Jessore-5 (Monirampur) constituency, was sent to jail by a Dhaka court on Friday on charge of killing his wife Dr Shamaruf Mehjabin Kona.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Erfan Ullah ordered to send Humayun Sultan to jail and fixed Sunday for hearing on his remand.

Earlier, Dhanmondi police pleaded to place him on a ten-day remand after producing him before the court.
He was arrested in connection with the murder of his wife on Thursday night.

Dhanmondi Police Station officer-in-charge Abu Bakar confirmed it.

Engineer Nurul Islam, father of Dr Shamaruf Mehjabin Kona, filed a murder case with Dhanmondi police station in connection with the murder of his daughter.

In the case, he accused former MP Tipu Sultan, his wife Dr Jesmine Ara Begum and son Humayun Sultan for the murder of his daughter.

It was alleged that Kona was beaten and strangled first. Afterward, her body was kept hanging with the grills of the window. Later, the body was taken to a the Central Hospital at Dhanmondi by her mother-in-law Jesmine Ara Begum where doctors declared Kona dead.

Kona used to live with her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law at a rented house at House No. 14, Road No. 6, Dhanmondi in the capital.
