A Dhaka court on Monday summoned BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman asking him to appear before it on December 10 for making comments on Bangabandhu that he (Bangabandhu) should be accused in sedition case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rezaul Karim passed the order after taking complaint of a defamation case into cognizance. Earlier in the morning, Monir Khan, assistant secretary of Bangladesh Awami League central sub-committee, filed the case against him with the CMM Court under section 399/500 of Bangladesh Penal Code (BPC).
At a discussion organised by the UK chapter of BNP in London on November 7, marking the observance of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, Tarique said, "A sedition case should be filed against Sheikh Mujib." In the meeting he also termed Sheikh Mujib a "Pakbandhu" (Friend of Pakistan).
