Witnesses said four employees were injured, while one was stabbed and a professor was physically assaulted by the Chhatra League activists led by BCL general secretary Arun Kanti Roy, Zia Hall BCL president Zahid Hasan and BCL activist Real during a meeting of the university employees held on the campus.
The BCL activists created a havoc by foiling the meeting which was being held with the authorities' permission at the auditorium of administrative building-1 over the existing stalemate of the university, said university sources.
It may be mentioned, Arun and Zahid were temporarily expelled from the university on November 4 for their alleged involvement in a digital forgery over admission tests of the university. Since then, BCL activists under the banner of Chhatra Sangram Parishad had been imposing an indefinite strike on the campus demanding withdrawal of the decision.
The witnesses said the university accounting official Ariful Islam and Progatishil Karmachari Parishad (PKP) president Jahangir Alam were injured during the attack while PKP finance secretary Imran Hossain was stabbed by the attackers. They physically assaulted Prof Dr Md Anis Khan, dean of Post Graduate Studies Faculty, as he came forward to rescue the attacked university staff.
Several teachers and officials of the university demanded to bring the attackers to book.
They urged the university authorities to give exemplary punishment to the attackers.
While contacted, Arun Kanti Roy categorically denied the allegation of attacking the university meeting, saying that the officials and employees themselves attacked the BCL activists, injuring seven students.
