Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said her government focused on reducing country's poverty rate below 10 percent during its current five-year tenure.

Addressing a meeting of Awami League Central Working Committee at Gonobhaban, she said the BNP leader should prove herself in the court of law that she didn't eat up the fund of orphans.

Sheikh Hasina said SAARC leaders in their just concluded summit highly appreciated Bangladesh's progress in various sector.

"We must continue the success," she said adding Bangladesh is the only South Asian nation which could show tremendous success in various sector over the last few years.

She said the poverty rate reduced to 24.4 percent during the current tenure of Awami League. We would be able to reduce poverty below 10 percent during our present tenure, she said.

The central committee meeting chalked out party programmes to observe the Victory Day, Martyred Intellectuals Day and Home Coming Day of Bangabandhu on January 10. General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, secretaries and members of the central committee attended the meeting.

Urging the party leaders to complete the conferences of different units and affiliated organizations, Sheikh Hasina said the conferences have drawn huge response of the people, which proved their confidence in Awami League.

Hasina said the confidence of people in AL is the result of our government's massive programmes for strengthening Bangladesh's rural economy that led creating huge employment opportunity in the villages. The people are getting services from the community clinics and digital centers in rural areas which they received before, she said.

Sheikh Hasina said all 5,275 Union Information Services Centres would be made digital ones in phases along with 8000 post offices so that people get IT services at their doorsteps.

Sheikh Hasina said unlikely to global phenomenon, the inflation rate in Bangladesh came down remarkably as a result of the economic programmes taken by the government.

The inflation rate was over 13 percent in 2009 which now stands at 6.04 percent, benefitting the common people particularly the low income group, she said.

She said about 30 types of medicine are being provided free of cost to the patients from the community clinics while poor mothers of new born babies and lactating mother are being given allowances.

Sheikh Hasina said the BNP after taking office in 2001 lodged many cases against the Awami League leaders on charge of corruption. The caretaker government also vigorously tried to probe the allegations.

But they could not make any Awami League leader guilty of corruption, she said adding the World Bank finally joined the campaign against us, which also probed false.

Sheikh Hasina said the persons who misappropriated the money of orphans now speak loudly. BNP is the party which indulged in corruption, terrorism and militancy to the highest order in the country. Now they speak loudly, she lamented.

Sheikh Hasina said many persons trade on many theories on prospect of Bangladesh. But we believe in only one theory-that is economic emancipation and get rid of poverty. Our government is striving for this, she said.
