RAJSHAHI, Nov 29: Metropolitan unit and Rajshahi University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of BNP-led 20-party alliance jointly called a day-long hartal in the city on Monday following five-point demand including the proper investigation into RU Sociology Professor AKM Shafiul Islam's killing.
The declaration of the hartal came from a demonstration held at Bhuban-Mohan Park of the city on Friday evening.
Source said that the leaders and activists of RU and Metropolitan unit of JCD brought out a protest procession in the city at 5:30pm led by RU unit President Imtiaz Ahmed and Metropolitan unit President Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.
After parading over the different roads of the city the procession ended at Bhuman-Mohan Park of the city.
UNB adds: A court here on Saturday sent three people to jail in connection with the murder of Rajshahi University teacher Prof AKM Shafiul Islam.
Those sent to jail are Jinnat Ali, Sagar and Arif.
Officer-in-charge of Matihar Police Station Alamgir Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case, the trio was sent to jail on completion of their two-day remand.
