Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the United States had made all its efforts to foil the January 5 election, but it could not succeed.

She made the remarks in response to a query of a journalist about the meeting between Khaleda Zia and US Assistant Secretary Nisa Desai Biswal.

Sheikh Hasina also said discussions would be continued on the unresolved issues with Pakistan.

"It is not the policy of Bangladesh to ruin diplomatic ties with any other country," she replied to another query of a journalist.

The prime minister also informed that Malaysia has agreed to recruit 12,000 more Bangladeshi workers to the country.

"An agreement was also signed regarding the manpower export to Malaysia," said the prime minister.

She said positive progress was also marked for strengthening economic relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
