The overall general inflation rate, mostly due to the fall in food inflation, slightly declined to 6.21 percentage point in November against 6.60 percentage point in October this year.
"The overall general point-to-point inflation rate in November this year reached 6.21 percentage point," said Planning Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal on Tuesday.
The minister was releasing the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) at a press conference at the NEC-2 conference room.
Planning Division Secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam, Planning Commission members and BBS Director General Golam Mostafa Kamal were present at the press conference.
According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data, the general inflation rate in November this year declined to 6.44 percentage point which was 7.16 percentage point in October.
The non-food inflation rate in November, however, rose slightly to 5.84 percentage point, up from 5.74 percentage point in October.
Citing the trend of general inflation in the last five months, AHM Mustafa Kamal said it is consistently slowing down and if the trend continues, it would be further easier to manage the monetary and fiscal policy.
The general inflation rate in September was 6.84 percentage point, 6.91 percentage point in August and 7.04 percentage point in July.
The BBS data showed that the general inflation rate in November was 6.51 percentage point in urban areas while 6.05 in rural areas compared to the October figures of 6.79 in urban areas and 6.49 percentage point in rural areas.
The food inflation declined in rural areas in November this year to 6.38 percentage point, down from 7.11 percentage point in the previous month of October.
The non-food inflation rate in rural areas rose slightly to 5.45 percentage point in November compared to 5.36 percentage point in October this year.
In urban areas, the food inflation rate declined to 6.61 percentage point in November from 7.27 percentage point in October this year.
The non-food inflation rate in urban areas, however, witnessed an uptrend in November as it stood at 6.39 percentage point against 6.26 percentage point in October this year.
Besides, the national wage index rate witnessed a 10.32 percent growth in November this year with 8757.62, up from 8701.74 in October this year.
The average one year inflation rate from December 2013-November 2014 also witnessed a downtrend at 7.10 percentage point compared to 7.52 percentage point during December 2012 to November 2013.
