Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique on Tuesday said that a true journalist must practice presenting objective news for welfare of the people chasing the risks of the profession. On the other hand, the owners must not use their journalists to fulfill their evil will.
"The independence of media actually reflects the independence of mass people in the country. That's why media should not be used for fulfilling any evil will of any group or section of persons, or media owners should not use a journalist to fulfill any unethical want."
Speaking at a discussion, DU Vice Chancellor AAMS Aefin Siddique made this statement at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the city today. Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) organised the discussion demanding job security of journalists.
DU VC said that the free thinking and scope of publishing objective news for a journalist had been destroyed by extensive commercialization in this sector.
DU Television and Film Studies Department Chairman Prof AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan alleged, "The media houses authorities often appoint journalists at their houses more than necessary.  But after some days, they sack them suddenly that is barring the development of journalism in our county."
Among others, journalists from different print and electronic media were present there.
