Chittagong: Prime Minister's Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury on Saturday urged journalists to work with responsibility in order to strengthen democracy in the country.

He said Bangladesh should be built up as per the spirit of the liberation war and an atmosphere of co-existence of the people of all religions should be upheld side by side with establishing a democratic society and ensuring human rights and economic growth.

"Journalists have moral responsibilities in this regard and we should work to strengthen democracy in the country", Iqbal, also the Editor of the Daily Observer, added.

He said this while addressing the 52nd founding anniversary of Chittagong Press Club (CPC).

Iqbal Sobhan, also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), said those who did not want the independence of the country are now hatching conspiracies to push the country towards backwardness.

"But Bangladesh will go ahead foiling all conspiracies of the vested quarter and none can stop its progress," he commented.

Terming Chittagong Press Club as the seat of all progressive movements, Iqbal Sobhan urged all to uphold its reputation.

Presided over by CPC president Ali Abbas and conducted by CPC general Secretary Mohsin Chowdhury, the function was addressed, among others, by Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mejbah Uddin Ahmed and CPC joint general secretary Mohsin Kazi.
