
A total of 17 policemen had to sacrifice their lives preventing anti-state activities in the last year.

The IGP came up with the remarks while addressing the 32nd annual general meeting of Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association at Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium in the city on Saturday.
He said like any service-oriented organisation, Bangladesh police need cooperation and advice drawing on the experience of retired people.
The IGP requested the retired police officers to give advice as well as active cooperation for policing.
Chaired by the president of the association Dr M Enamul Haque, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by M Shahidul Islam Chowdhury and Alhaj Tajul Islam.
IGP Hassan Mahmood Khandker also handed over the SM Ahsan Ulla Award for Sub-inspectors--SI Mihir Kumar Pawl, SI Md Nurunnabi and SI Mizanur Rahman for their contribution in community policing.
Inspector Afroza Akhtar was given the Prof Onamika Haq Lili and Dr Enamul Haque Award for her contribution to protecting repressed women and children as well as providing social services.
