In an effort to reduce the mounting pressure on capital Dhaka, the government will build modern and green satellite
towns surrounding the city, said Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday.
As part of the initiative, the Jhilmil Residential Project is being built as a ‘green city’ with an independent power plant, water and waste management system and modern facilities, he said.
The Housing Minister said this while visiting the Jhilmil project at Keraniganj. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid was also present.
Mosharraf Hossain said a flyover linking the Jhilmil Residential area and hantinagar of the city by 2019 for ensuring a better communication system.
“Alignment works on the flyover are done and tender under the public-private partnership will be floated by the next 10 months,” he said.
The Housing Minister also said the government will construct flats considering housing facilities for the lower-income group people.
About plot allocation, Mosharraf Hossain said nobody will be able to hold more than one plots. “If anybody owns more than one, all will be cancelled keeping only one.”
Housing and Public Works Secretary M Moinuddin Abdullah, Rajuk Chairman GM Joinal Abedin, Project Director Abdul Latif Helali and senior officials were also present.
