Two persons including a police constable were caught for mugging Tk 1 lakh in the High Court area under Shahbagh police station in the city on Monday noon.
Another police constable in the gang, however, managed to flee.
The arrested constable is Nure Alam of Madaripur police lines and the other member of the gang is Mizanur Rahman.
They were handed over to Shahbagh police after a mass beating, Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam told The Daily Observer.
Police constables Nure Alam and Khalil are from the Police Investigation Bureau (PIB). They along with Mizanur intercepted two people Liton and Sunny in the HC area and snatched the money from them, the OC said.
But the passers-by caught and gave them a mass beating. The police came and recovered Tk 73 thousand 500 from the snatchers. Khalil had fled, the OC said.
A case was filed with Shahbagh police station in this connection.
