The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in an unanimous resolution on December 15, New York time, passed a Bangladesh proposal for "culture of peace," a press release of the foreign ministry said.
Bangladesh was one of 97 countries to co-sponsor the resolution.
In an impromptu response, the Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr A K Abdul Momen, said that the main spirit of the resolution was to increase tolerance which would reduce global tensions.
This is the first time a number of European countries came forward to co-sponsor the resolution.
Momen said that the main theme of the resolution was the participation of people, particularly women and youth, in running the state.
The diplomat also said that despite the negative propaganda by certain quarters the adoption of the resolution, once again, proved that the global community accepted Bangladesh as a responsible partner. ?BSS
