
The Outsider is an adaptation of the much critically acclaimed novel by the same title, written by Algerian Nobel Prize winning author Albert Camus. The drama has been directed by Nayem Shaon.
The story of the play revolv1es around the central character named Mersault, who appears to be emotionally and psychologically detached from the rest of the world. The adapted play does not deviate much from the original classic penned by Camus.
Mersault, born into a Christian family is depicted as an atheist. He accidentally kills an Arab man and faces prosecution. He faces trial, where he does not care to appoint a lawyer so the state appoints a counsel for him.
The society judges him guilty when he does not shed a single drop of tear when his mother passes away. He smokes at his mother's funeral and goes to a movie theatre with his girlfriend Marie shortly after his mother's demise.
His emotional detachment from relationships work against him at the trial and the prosecutor portrays him as a cold blooded murderer.
Abandoned by his girlfriend, he awaits the final judgment of his life by the judge.

The lead character of the drama Mersault was played by Kuldip Paul and Sadia Afrin Jitu act as Marie. Sudip, Tipu, Alif, Aminul, Joyossri Sonnase, Asiful Islam, Rana Rahaman and others enacted various roles in the drama.
