Suspected snatcher killed in Pabna ‘shootout’

Pabna : A suspected snatcher was killed in a ‘shootout’ with police at Gokulnagar in Iswardi upazila early Thursday.

The dead was identified as Jahangir Hossain, 27, son of Montaj Malitha of the upazila.

Jahangir was a listed mugger and accused of a number of mugging case, police said.

Being informed that a gang of snatchers have engaged in mugging from the passengers of different vehicles at Raju Cinema Hall area, a police team of Ishwardi thana went to the scene at about 2am.

The snatchers, sensing the presence of law enforcers, opened fire on them. Police also fired back for self defence, leaving Raju injured.

Bullet-hit Raju was first admitted to the upazila health complex. Later, Raju was referred to Pabna General Hospital following deterioration of his condition. But, he died on way the hospital.
