Staff Correspondent CHITTAGONG, Jan 3: A group of Detective Branch police of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) including a Sub Inspector on Saturday distained over allegedly involvement with the hijacking of 60 gold bars from a jewelry trader of the city on Thursday last. The SI was identified as Abul Hussain, as well as two other constables and police sources. According to a CMP sources, one Krishna Karmakar and his brother Narayan Karmakar, owner of a jeelry shop at Hazari Lane was going to Dhaka on Thursday last along with 60 bars of gold. When they reached at Chittagong Railway Station at about 2 pm, the hijacker gang suddenly started beat up Krishna Karmakar who was carrying the gold bars and snatched away the gold. Meanwhile, the police was informed about the hijack. So, the CMP authorities detained the gang and recovered 23 gold bars to Karmakar. The CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondal told the Daily Observer that attempt to recover the rest of gold bars is going on. 'The interrogation is going on. After the recovery, a case will be filed against the criminals' the CMP Commissioner added.
