Four BNP men killed in 3 dists; Hartal called

Four activists of BNP and its associate bodies were killed and some  others injured in seperate incidents of clash with ruling Awami League or police firing in Natore, Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj district on Monday.

Meanwhile, daylong hartal has been called in the three districts to protest the killings.

In Natore, two people were shot dead and 15 others were injured during a clash between ruling Awami League and BNP at Tebbaria area in Sadar upazila.

The deceased were identified as Rakib and Raihan Hossain Rana, two activists of pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).

Witnesses said, the ruling party men opened fire on the JCD activists when they brought out a procession in the area around 10:30 am as part of 20-party combine's countrywide programmes to mark its 'Democracy Killing Day', leaving 17 activists injured.

Officer-in-charge Faridul Islam of Sadar Police Station said, among the injured Rakib and Rana died at Sadar Hospital.

Additional law enforcers have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation.

In Rajshahi, A BNP leader was killed in police firing on a rally at Baneshwar Bazar in Puthia upazila on Monday afternoon.

The dead was identified as Mojiruddin, 45, a leader of a ward-unit BNP under Maria union.

Over 50 leaders and activists were also injured in the attack at about 4:20pm. They were admitted local hospitals.

Charghat upazila chairman and BNP president Abu Sayeed Chan said police fired gunshots on the rally organized by the 20-party combine marking the Democracy that left Mojiruddin dead on the spot and over 50 injured.   

In Chapainawabganj, A BNP activist was killed in police firing during a clash at Kansat in Shibganj upazila in the  morning.

The dead was identified as Jamshed Ali, 40.

Meanwhile, BNP called a daylong hartal in the district for Tuesday to protest the killing.

Witnesses said the clash ensued at about 3pm as police intercepted the members of the 20-party alliance when they tried to bring out a procession violating section 144.

The alliance members blasted cocktails threw brickbats towards the law enforcers that forced police to fire back. Jamshed received bullet wounds in police firing. He was first admitted to Shibganj Health Complex and later referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). But, Jamshed died on way to RMCH.
